Studio B

Studio B – A Versatile Recording Studio with Vocal Booth

Studio B is somewhat legendary in the recording industry, and for good reason. To the casual observer, it looks impressive enough, a spacious recording studio with vocal booth, control room, and machine room, but what you may not know is that this studio is an exact replica of The Grey Room, the iconic recording studio built by famed producer Richard Landis. Rent Studio B for your own recording project, and enjoy the same setup that has been used by music royalty like Tina Turner, Vince Gill, Tori Amos, and The Smithereens.

The Equipment

Like the Grey Room that preceded it, Studio B features a wealth of high-end recording equipment designed to provide pristine major-label sound quality. The mixing board is an SSL AWS 900, and the outboard gear includes Avalon 737 an LA-2A Classic Leveling Amplifier, 2 Distressors, 2 DBX 160A 1073s, 2 Tube Tech CL 1Bs, an API 2500 Bus Comp, a BAE 312A Module, a Moog Analog Delay, and Moog The Ladder. In addition, the studio includes an array of top-quality speakers and amplifiers, affording you the optimal recording and production experience.

The History

For more than 4 decades, Richard Landis has been writing, recording, and producing on behalf of some of the world’s most renowned musical artists. In 1994 he received a CMA Album of the Year award for Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles, and he has produced for many leading record labels including RCA, Capitol, and Columbia. His tenure includes production work for Juice Newton and Kenny Rogers, and The Grey Room was the culmination of his life’s work in recording: a fully equipped recording studio with vocal booth and control room, boasting some of the best gear on the market.

In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, during the heyday of the Grey Room, some of the larger L.A. studios stepped in and waged legal war on Landis’ impressive home enterprise, ultimately shutting it down for good. Undeterred, Landis built an exact replica of the studio inside the facility that would ultimately become 17 Hertz. The equipment is still here in its original configuration, and now you can use it for yourself, and experience legendary quality for your own musical works.
